Throughout the world, the cost of maintaining trackbed in particular ballasted track is rising. In addition pressure is mounting on rail companies to minimise the impact of delays in the operation of high speed passenger and freight services, caused by routine, or worse, unplanned, maintenance activities. Traditional methods of taking possession of a line to investigate the ballast and underlying trackbed by physical sampling are slow, inefficient and contribute to ever more expensive downtime.
Zetica’s Advanced Rail Radar system (ZARR) is a proven system on ballasted track which can provide the following immediate benefits:
- Reduction in the number of trial holes required to investigate a site
Accurate mapping of the extent of track maintenance or renewals required
Verification of the quality of renewals work carried out
The ability to monitor change in the condition of trackbed
ZARR has been directly responsible for impressive cost savings in site investigation and significant improvements in efficiencies by accurately defining the scope of renewals required. The system is currently deployed on term contracts with major railroad companies in Europe and North America with over 60,000km of track being scanned this year alone.

Eurotech is a leading international technology group with headquarters in Italy and facilities throughout Europe, America and Asia.
Eurotech designs and implements all the building blocks required in a pervasive system: smart objects, miniaturized computers (MicroPC and NanoPC), super computers (HPC), pervasive networks and software platforms for pervasive systems management. In the area of smart objects and NanoPC the activities of Eurotech Group depend on the miniaturization required by customers. The design of these devices aims at providing a rich set of features and functionalities, a low power consumption profile and very small dimensions. Smart objects and NanoPC come in a great variety of form, depending on the application context, the technology adopted, the cost, etc.. The portfolio of products varies from integrated systems based on a single chip (System-on-Chip, SoC) to Nano and Micro embedded computers, to wearable PC, to general purpose embedded computers and custom embedded systems. The application areas of these devices are wireless sensor networks (ambient and body), smart environments (house and city), wearable computing, health care, mobile and nomadic computing, transportation, security, etc. In the field of HPC, Eurotech develops, with proprietary interconnection technologies, high performance computers based on a massive connection of miniaturized computers. These supercomputers represent the central points for management and coordination of the pervasive system and for the massive elaboration of the information that travels across the pervasive network. |
